Follower growth rate
Follower growth rate is the net change in followers expressed as a percentage of the starting follower count.
Calculate net growth
Growth rate = (ending followers − starting followers) ÷ starting followers × 100
A profile starts with 12,000 followers and ends with 12,600. Net growth is 600, or 5%. Count both gains and losses. A negative result means the account ended with fewer followers.
If the starting count is zero, report absolute growth instead of a percentage.
Compare equal periods
A rise from 2000 to 2200 is 10%; a rise from 100,000 to 103,000 is 3%. The larger profile adds more accounts despite the lower rate. Show the percentage and absolute change alongside follower count.
For Instagram, review promotions and publishing dates. For TikTok, examine whether interest continues after a successful video. A spike alone neither proves purchased followers nor guarantees sustained growth.
