Follower count
Follower count is the number of accounts following a creator. Audience size is a broader label, so specify what is being counted in a brief.
Use follower counts as a starting point
The free creator lookup shows available basic data for public profiles in Rufka’s database. Record the platform and measurement date, and avoid presenting a rounded count as precise to one account.
Followers are not guaranteed viewers. A post may miss some followers and reach non-followers. Read the count alongside reach and engagement rate.
Working creator tiers
Definitions vary between reports. This glossary uses these bands for planning:
- Nano: 1000 to below 10,000 followers.
- Micro: 10,000 to below 100,000.
- Macro: 100,000 to below 1 million.
- Mega or celebrity: 1 million and above.
A band is not a quality rating or a price list. Content fit, audience relevance, production scope and usage rights also affect a buying decision.
Compare platforms and totals carefully
On Instagram, assess the format you intend to book. Reels performance does not establish Story performance. On TikTok, review several videos rather than using the best viral result as a forecast.
A creator with 24,000 Instagram followers and 16,000 TikTok followers has 40,000 follows across two profiles. Some people may follow both. A total across platforms or creators is not a deduplicated audience or a prediction of campaign reach.
