Social media reach
Social media reach is the number of distinct accounts or people exposed to content within a stated scope and period.
Reach is different from views
If 1500 accounts each see a post twice, reach is 1500 while exposure totals 3000 events. Impressions and views may include repeat exposure; reach counts distinct audience within the report’s scope.
Followers are a separate measure. Some followers will miss a post, while non-followers may see it. Follower count is not a forecast or ceiling for post reach.
Instagram and TikTok
Instagram reports reach as an estimated metric, separate from Views. TikTok Ads Manager defines reach as unique users who saw the ad at least once. A public organic video counter is not that same measure.
For creator selection, request results from comparable formats and dates. Check whether paid distribution is included. One exceptionally successful post does not establish the likely reach of every sponsored placement.
Avoid double-counting a campaign
Two posts reach 2000 accounts each, and 500 accounts see both. Combined reach is 2000 + 2000 − 500 = 3500. Adding the two totals would overstate distinct exposure.
Without overlap data, label an addition as a sum of reported post reach. The same problem applies across creators and between organic and paid distribution.
Use AI creator search to find candidates for a brief, then obtain relevant private reach reports from the creators. Rufka’s free lookup does not provide private reach.
